Internet Explorer to Firefox - Double Play! Sat 14 Jul 2007 9:39 PMThis is one of those stories that just makes you shake your head. There seems to be a flaw in Internet Explorer that allows it to pass on a command to Firefox. Seriously. And, of course, script kiddies are taking advantage of this to pass Firefox malicious Web sites. Yes, Internet Explorer can cause Firefox to go to sites that cause it to download viruses! Of course, there's a lot of finger-pointing going on. It's pretty clear that the flaw is in Internet Explorer, but Microsoft says they're not going to patch IE. The Mozilla folk (who wrote Firefox) have explained that it's an input validation flaw in IE that causes this; but they're working to protect Firefox against IE. In the meantime, here's the way to fix yourself: stop using Internet Explorer. You see, the problem isn't Firefox - Firefox works great. The problem is IE. Stop using it, and you're in no trouble at all! Back to the blog All blog contents are published under |
